Virginia Luis Fuentes graduated from Cambridge Veterinary School in 1984. Before she began to teach at the University of Edinburgh, she took five - years practice and received the title RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) in the field of radiology and cardiology of small animals. In 1992, she received a scholarship PDSA and she worked on her PhD thesis, covering subjects of dilated cardiomyopathy echocardiographic evaluation. In 1994 she received the title of Specialist RCVS in the field of veterinary cardiology. In 1997 prof. Luis Fuentes moved to the University of Missouri in Columbia (USA), where she worked as an assistant professor, and in 2001 she was an assistant professor supervising the student practice at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Ohio State University. In 2004, she supported university staff in Royal Veterinary College in London. Her interests focus on echocardiography and myocardial diseases in dogs and cats. Her research concern hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in cats, the role of endothelial cells in dogs as well as echocardiography and evaluation of magnetic resonance imaging of mitral regurgitation. Outside of academic work, prof. Fuentes spents time working in cardiac clinic at the Queen Mother Hospital. She is interested in all aspects of cardiology, especially in heart disease in cats and mitral regurgitation.
