Benjamin Brainard

Dr. Brainard received his VMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000, followed by a 1 year internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Georgia. Following internship, Dr. Brainard completed dual residencies in Veterinary Anesthesiology and Emergency and Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Brainard is currently an professor of critical care at the University of Georgia, and is board certified in both veterinary anesthesiology and emergency/critical care. Dr. Brainard directs the ICU and emergency service at UGA with his colleague, Dr. Amie Koenig, and also serves as an assistant editor for the Journal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. Dr. Brainard is currently the vice president of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) and is a recent recipient of the University of Georgia CVM clinical research award and the University of Georgia CVM service award.

Dr. Brainards research interests include coagulation, drugs that affect platelet function, and techniques for the diagnosis of hypercoagulability in veterinary patients.
